| Week 20 Christo Coetzee 70 by Andries Loots

South African artist, Christo Coetzee has just turned seventy and the University of Stellenbosch, Cape, saw it fit to honour this prestigious artist with a retrospective exhibition which will run until the 15 August at the SASOL Museum, Ryneveld street, Stellenbosch.
The collection on display consists of approximately 180 works by the artist that were acquired by the University as well as some works on loan to the University. It highlights the eight phases of his oeuvre and also represents an extensive variety of subjects, ideas, media and materials.
Coinciding with the exhibition a book,
written by Muller Ballot, on the life and work of the
artist was launched (ISBN 079813914-5). The aim of the book is to pay tribute to one
of South Africa's most renowned artists who has left his mark locally and internationally
from as early as 1954. It is also a token of gratitude to the artist for his varied
