This week  artist Edoardo Villa is featured.


Edoardo Villa ( 1920 - )


Born 31 May 1920 in Bergamo,  Italy.

Came to South Africa as an Italian Prisoner of War in 1942.
A sculptor of anthropomorphic images with an African theme. Works in steel, brass, copper and bronze. He played a vital part in establishing the awareness of sculpture by South African artists like Sydney Kumalo,  Ezrom Legae and Lucas Sithole,  through his teachings at the Polly Street Art Centre.

Studies:
He received most of his art education at the Andrea Fantoni Art School in Bergamo Italy,  but also attended some classes in Milan and Rome.
